ICTC and the Community

Since its inception in 1990, the Irish Classical Theatre Company has distinguished itself as a pioneer in the area of cultural and educational outreach as a means of broadening and enhancing the product we present on stage while expanding and enriching the community we serve.

To that end, the Irish Classical Theatre Company has undertaken a number of collaborations with other cultural organizations in the region, representing a wide spectrum of ethnic, cultural and demographic backgrounds.

Artistic collaborations abound and include such notable partners as Shakespeare in Delaware Park, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Studio Arena Theatre, the Paul Robeson Theatre of the African-American Cultural Center, the Ujima Theatre Company, the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University at Buffalo, the UB Center for the Arts and Buffalo State College. Also, ICTC has collaborated with the GEVA Theatre Company in Rochester, New York and the Irish Repertory Theatre Company in New York City. In the 2005-2006 season ICTC will collaborate with the Jewish Repertory Theatre Co. in a production of C.P. Taylor's powerful play, "Good".

ICTC has also worked cooperatively with other arts organizations, sharing space, personnel and resources with Buffalo United Artists for its production of R&J and with the newly-formed Jewish Repertory Theatre of Buffalo for its inaugural production, The Chosen.

Outreach activities don’t end with artistic collaborations. ICTC is always working to make great theatre accessible not only to our traditional audiences, but to underserved segments of the community including, but not limited to, the economically disadvantaged.

In an effort to reach emerging audiences, the Irish Classical Theatre Company focuses on our area’s young people by presenting a School Matinee Series, complete with study guides and post-show talk-backs, which last year served over 1,000 students. ICTC's classics for kids program helped to serve sutdents unable to afford the cost of a ticket. For many attending each season, ICTC’s School Matinee Program provides their first opportunity to attend a live theatre performance.

ICTC is also a partner with the Dr. Lydia T. Wright Magnet School which serves children K-8 who are mainly African-American and economically disadvantaged. ICTC develops a curriculum and provides teachers for an after school theatre program to introduce interested students to all aspects of live performance. Teachers, students and their parents are also offered the opportunity to see performances by the Irish Classical Theatre Company at the Andrews Theatre free of charge.
